Beyond the Rondavels

Beyond the Rondavels looks out across Blyde River Canyon toward the Three Rondavels, where layers of green escarpment disappear into the distance beneath a heavy, shifting sky.

What drew me to this scene was the contrast between scale and atmosphere. The Rondavels anchor the landscape with their massive, unmistakable forms, while broken light moves across the canyon below and storm clouds dominate the sky above.

Rather than presenting the mountains as something isolated, the photograph holds together rock, vegetation, weather, depth, and distance—the elements that make this part of South Africa feel so immense.

Printed on enhanced matte paper, the low-sheen finish preserves the photograph’s detail and restrained fine-art character.
