Thief Teef
A would-be vehicle thief retreats to his perch and makes his displeasure very clear.
This vervet monkey lives near one of the scenic lookout points in Kruger National Park, where vehicles full of distracted visitors can present certain opportunities.
On this particular day, he made a run at our vehicle in hopes of helping himself to whatever he could find. I shooed him away before the robbery could be completed. He promptly retreated to a nearby perch, turned back toward us, and showed us exactly how big his teeth were.
What I love about the photograph is the behavior and personality packed into such a brief encounter: an intelligent, opportunistic animal responding immediately when his plan was interrupted.
